What's NaNoWriMo?

Who: You! And me, and thousands of other people around the world.
What: A chance to write that novel inside of you, all 50,000 words of it! In one month! Hooray!
When: Midnight, November 1st to 11:59:59 pm November 30th. The Camp NaNoWriMo sessions run April 1-30th and July 1-31st.
Where: On your computer, in a notebook, in Google Docs, wherever you can copy and paste your novel to be validated by the end of the month.
Why: Because it's fun. Because you have a novel idea. Because your friends are doing it. Because you're nuts (it's okay, a lot of us are!)

NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is a month long event that's totally bucket-loads of fun and that I think more people should do! You're a winner even if you sit down and start writing, but in the event that you do reach 50,000 words you get codes for discounted Createspace copies and Scrivner downloads, along with winners badges and a lifetime of bragging rights, not to mention a shiny new rough draft!

You write your novel entirely on your computer (or in a notebook, if you want to count your own words) and then  copy and paste it into a Word Count Validator at the end of the month to (what else) validate your word count, which confirms on whether or not you've hit 50,000.

I love participating in NaNoWriMo, and I talk about it a lot here. I had first heard of NaNo through a blog, so I hope that some of my enthusiasm over here at Brave New Shelf inspires some new novelists!

If you have any questions at all, email me (bravenewshelf[at]gmail[dot]com), or after you've made an account you can send a message to tealeaf82, for both Camp or the main event, and I'd be happy to answer any questions.
